Some of us enjoy curling up on the couch with a good book or video game and spending the day relaxing. Others take great joy in hurtling down a mountainside on a bike or attempting to climb up said mountain with just a harness and a rope. This article is for the latter.

For all you adrenaline junkies, we’ll be outlining 5 of the more extreme near Seattle outdoor activities.

    MOUNTAINEERING ON MOUNT RAINIER

We’ll start the list off hot with the ascent of an active volcano. Okay, that may have been a tad misleading as Mount Rainier has the most heavily glaciated peak in the United States.

If you plan to undergo this journey you should be physically in shape and prepared for any situation. Weather can change rapidly and snowstorms aren’t uncommon during the summer. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

    ROCK CLIMBING IN LEAVENWORTH

Leavenworth is renowned as one of the best rock climbing destinations in the Pacific Northwest. An abundance of granite, cracks, and dry weather is what vaults it to the top.

It is generally split into three sections: Icicle Creek Canyon, Tumwater Canyon, and Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Each is unique in its own way and offer a varying degree of difficulty. Whether you’re a beginner who is simply interested in climbing or a veteran whose hands are hardened like the rocks they grip, Leavenworth has something to offer you.

    KITEBOARDING IN PUGET SOUND

Picture snowboarding and wakeboarding combined. But instead of using a hill or a boat to gain momentum, you’re harnessing the power of the wind. Sounds pretty gnarly, right?

Puget Sound has an abundance of wind, the magical fuel that is necessary for kiteboarding. If you’re like me and are wondering what a sound is… it’s a large sea or ocean inlet larger than a bay, deeper than a bight, and wider than a fjord; or a narrow sea or ocean channel between two bodies of land.

    DUTHIE HILL MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK

Seattle is blessed to be within driving distance of numerous pristine mountain biking trails and Duthie Hill Mountain Bike Park may just take the cake as the best around. Ranging from cross country, all-mountain, and freestyle trails, this mountain appeals to every type of rider.

23 trails totaling 11.2 miles will keep you busy all day whether you’re an amateur or a pro. Dust off your bike and then proceed to get it dusty again partaking in one of the most exhilarating near Seattle outdoor activities.

    SURFING AT WESTPORT

Westport is one of the only beaches where you’ll find consistently rideable waves along the Washington coastline. If you’re a surfer who finds yourself in the state of Washington then this place is a godsend.

An early morning surf session is an exhilarating way to start your day. The perfect wave is out there and it’s waiting for you at Westport.

After a day of surfing, rock climbing, or mountain biking you’re likely going to be sore. Cannabis is known to be effective in treating pain, so we recommend you check out our online menu!
