Whether it’s summer or winter, a cool refreshing drink or a warm tasteful one can provide such a revitalizing feeling. We’ve all heard of cannabis edibles but have you ever thought about infusing cannabis into your favorite drink? Keep reading to learn all about cannabis infused beverages.

THC and CBD drinks are beverages infused with cannabis cannabinoids; they are known as “liquid edibles” or “drinkables.” Beverages infused with THC are psychoactive, which means they will make you feel high, while drinks infused with CBD are intended to help you relax without that “high” feeling.

Edibles and drinkables have to go through your digestive system in order to take effect. There is no way to determine exactly how long it will take. This differs from smoking or vaping which deliver effects almost instantly. So you will need to experiment with cannabis drinks to figure out how quickly or slowly they work for you. Anecdotally, customers tell us they notice effects from drinking cannabis more quickly than edibles so effects are likely noticed between 10 minutes and an hour plus (depending on each individual person).

There are all types of cannabis drinks whether it be THC-infused or CBD-infused including flavored waters, seltzers, coffee, tea, and soda.

THC beverages can be mood-specific as you can choose from different strains (sativa, hybrid, or indica). When considering a THC-infused beverage, the label will show the amount of THC milligrams inside the container. There may also be a label stating how many doses are in a container. This is important to consider, especially if you are a beginner. The industry recommended single dose of THC is 10mg. However, if you’re new to cannabis you might want to consider a lower dose of 2-5mg or lower to start. Start low, and go slow.

Also, it’s important to mention that there is no such thing as alcoholic THC-infused beverages. There are laws restricting the development of alcoholic beverages that contain psychoactive THC. Mixing alcohol and cannabis increases the intensity of both. That being said, mixing them in high doses can be dangerous and can cause anxiousness and vomiting.

CBD beverages on the other hand have more freedom when it comes to ingredients. CBD is sourced from hemp and is very low in THC content. Consuming large quantities will not make you feel “high”. Unlike THC-infused drinks, this makes CBD-infused beverages compatible with beer and spirits. Hemp and beer actually go well together because cannabis and hops are in the same plant family.

Although CBD will not get you “high” it may make you feel tired and relaxed. With any cannabis product, practice moderation especially with others and if you’re planning to drive, avoid THC, or plan an Uber/Lyft ride.

As we mentioned earlier, it’s important to note that THC-infused beverages will make you feel “high” while CBD-infused drinks will make you feel more relaxed. Check out this chart from Leafly that explains THC dosages in edibles and their effect on the body.
