Spring has sprung: everything you need to know about outdoor growing

With the official start of spring kicking off this past week, we thought it would be a great time to shine some light on outdoor growing. With so many questions about quality control in the air, Origins wanted to take the time to share our harvest selection process, creating a new standard in cannabis. We take necessary measures to set true expectations without sacrificing experience.

Think of cannabis cultivation as an art similar to craft wine. Good wine isn’t just something people enjoy; each type has a unique story behind it. While cannabis may not yet be looked at in the same way as fine wine with the plant’s more recent legalization, the care and thought behind it is parallel.

With our outdoor grown brands, cannabis flower is made unique because each harvest is different from the one before. This is where our job comes in- only bringing the best products from each harvest to the table.

Concentrates must be evaluated methodically, and we make sure all starting material is single sourced (from one grower), with residual solvents (Butane,Propane,CO2) to not exceed 100 parts per million (ppm). In simple terms, quality control and assurance is something we take seriously from the very first steps in choosing harvests.

The same holds true for our edibles. We have scoured Washington to find artisan brands and small batch companies that are committed to quality and use wholesome ingredients. Many gluten free, sugar free, and vegan options are available to fit every lifestyle.

When it comes to prerolls, we feel that there is nothing wrong with trim prerolls to achieve a less potent experience. With this being said, we see the importance in labeling these products accurately and appropriately to stand by our expectations of complete transparency.

Product Sourcing

Spring has sprung: everything you need to know about outdoor growing

We locally source the highest quality cannabis from growers who grow at or above our Origins internal standards.

A few things we look for when sourcing outdoor-grown products:

  • Gardens that practice N0-Till methods, which reduces waste and limits the use of synthetic nutrients because the soil had nutrients from previous plant cycles
  • We choose gardens that don’t require them to flush the plants prior to their harvest. (Flushing is the process of rinsing and removing the nutrients,  this is normally done because the garden used nutrients or pesticides they are trying to rid from the plant. We prefer to find gardens who choose to grow clean without the need for pesticides or added nutrients)
  • Gardens that properly store  & cure their product. Anywhere from 4-12 week for a proper cure, sometimes even longer (cure – a method of preserving and drying cut cannabis flower to maximize the utilization of the terpenes and cannabinoids)
  • Gardens who are vested in the right interests of the industry now and for the sustainability of the future
  • Gardens that commit in writing to guarantee they will never use pesticides or synthetic growth agents

Once a garden is vetted, the first flower shipment for the new garden is accepted and sent for additional independent testing. This process guarantees an honest and unbiased test. The test results are then used to categorize the flower into one of Origins lifestyles based on cannabinoid profile.

PASSION FOR OUR PRODUCT AND TRANSPARENCY

Spring has sprung: everything you need to know about outdoor growing

The reason we created Origins internal standards is to ensure that the local cannabis community receives transparent safety driven information that leaves the customer completely satisfied. It represents our commitment to a healthy lifestyle while building the relationship between farmer and consumer.

The produce selection process also assures customers that they are receiving carefully curated artisan cannabis from our growers who share our values.

No Pesticides Used

All of our products, including concentrates and edibles, never use pesticides. They are all free of heavy metals and are independently tested to ensure each customer receives only the highest quality product possible. To ensure this promise with our grower we require all gardens to sign an affidavit from all suppliers. We also have a medical license for the health and safety of our customers.

COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION

Every Origins budtender goes through a rigorous and continuous training process to ensure all of our employees not only have excellent customer service skills, but have extensive knowledge of our products and the scientific processes for proper recommendations. Having all employees trained to the Origins standard creates consistency with product information.  Also with all employees being trained to origins standards this creates consistency with product information . At the end of the day, we only share transparent, consistent information about everything we carry in our store.
